  • BRIEF HISTORY

A-Comms is a non-profit making ICT management Consultant organization. It is based in the UK and is an independent organization. A-Comms Associates was formed at the ITU quadrennial exhibition at Geneva in October 1991. It started its early life during 1990s, as an ‘Information Exchange’ forum, mainly for the benefit of developing states requiring digital technology solutions, to move into the digital era. The prime task was to work on market studies, to understand the real needs for digital switch- over. Historically our first study was on Burkina Faso. It was requested by trainee project managers from the Caribbean Islands, studying at Cable & Wireless training college in the UK. The request was for a network model with a maximum capacity of one million PSTN + Mobile lines and radio pay-phones. This standard network model could then be used anywhere. A-Comms approached Ericsson Cellular division in the UK, to recommend a cost-efficient hybrid digital network design with radio pay-phones. Dr. Peer Rugaard – technology advisor was consulted, to come up with the right hybrid design solution, based on a number of available digital technologies. The final network model included NMT 900, GSM 900, AXE digital switches and CT3 cordless PABXs. In this hybrid network model - there was a choice of NMT mobiles, GSM mobiles, Cordless PABX phones, radio pay-phones and fixed line phones.

During 1990s, A-Comms was an active member of ‘BT Information Exchange’ forum until it was disbanded. Working with BT on its fixed network modernization and Vodafone GSM 900 mobile network implementation programmes during late 1980s and 1990s, was a valuable experience. Our global turnkey project expertise was gained by working on a large number of global telecommunications turnkey projects with global suppliers and PTTs in the Caribbean Islands, Middle East, Africa, Europe and South East Asia regions. Professional expertise extended to operations, product management, project management, marketing and sales.
